Baby photo shoots are so fun! And I promise you, this one is simple, adorable and will take you all of 5 minutes to set up.
Pinterest is full of great ideas for literally everything, and where I got the inspiration for this little at-home photo shoot. I found myself deep in one of my 3am Pinterest-holes, searching “Baby Christmas photos” and thought to myself, “I can do this!”. And YOU CAN TOO!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Large Pillow. Now, this isn’t 100% necessary; you could lay your baby flat on a mat or blanket. But this helps with the overall angle we’re going for where you can see some of the tree in the background.
- Play Mat or Blanket. Hey, use what you have!
- Support Pillow or Rolled Towel. The one I used is from a Shein pillow set that I ordered about a year ago, but you could easily use a rolled towel underneath for some extra support and leverage.
- String Light. I picked up a pack from my local CVS for $5.
- Ornaments. Mine are from Michael’s, but again, use whatever you have at home!
Now, once you’re satisfied with your set up, grab your happy baby and get to snapping! But first…
Photo Tips
- Get LOW. We’re here to get that shot! And that means getting your lovely tree glowing in the background. That is really going to make your pictures extra festive and dreamy. Without this angle, you’ll likely just get your tree stand in the frame (and that’s not exciting).
- Turn down the exposure on your camera. This will help the lighting from the string lights really pop- especially on your baby’s sweet face. I took these photos on my iPhone; to do this, simply tap your screen. An image of a sun will appear. Now slide up (to turn up the exposure) or down (to dim the exposure). *check out the image example below*
- Use an editing App. Not necessary, but will help you get the most out of your photos and really get that professional feel. I use LightRoom to edit most of my photos. The app is user friendly, but even if you’re inexperienced at photo editing, they have an “auto” feature that will amp up your photo in the best way.
- Have fun with it! Use what you have and get creative! Try some garland, a cute or funny holiday outfit, maybe some candy canes- play around with whatever you have on hand for a unique and personal touch.
